Ernest Gene Ballard

Ernest Gene Ballard, 85, of Winters passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Abilene, Texas.

He was born December 29, 1932 to Eddie and Nadine (Glenn) Ballard in Marthaville, LA.  He honorably served his country, during the Korean War, as a member of the United States Army.  Ernest married Barbara Gilbert, on June 5, 1954, in Brownwood, TX.  He worked as a salesman and truck driver, for Weakly Watson, for over forty years.

Ernest is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents; daughter, Deborah Sue Sommers; and son-in-law, Scott Sommers.

He is survived by his children, Steven Ballard and wife, Debbie of Winters, Terry Ballard and wife, Renee of Texas City, and Larry Ballard of Brownwood; grandchildren, Guy Ballard of Weatherford, Brandon Ballard of Granbury, Courtney Neal of San Antonio, Kris Ballard of Abilene, Kevin Ballard of Winters, and Kody Ballard of Texas City.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 16 at Lange Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 17 at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.
