Esperanza Castillo

December 22, 1940 — November 8, 2020

Esperanza Castillo, 80, of Ballinger, Texas passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.

Esperanza was born December 22, 1940, in Michoacan, Mexico to Jesus and Juana (Contreras) Trujillo.  Early on in life, she took on the role of mother when her mother took ill, raising her siblings as her own children.  She married Manuel Castillo in June of 1960 in Michoacan, and they shared several years together before his passing.  She was known for the delicate handiwork whether with food, as she crafted works of art with things as simple as an orange or watermelon, or in the handmade dresses and blankets she crafted for her many beloved grandchildren.  She worked for many years at the Country Club in San Angelo, Texas as a sous chef, before retiring to provide her gifts to her family.  Locally in Ballinger, she was known for her delicious gorditas and tamales.  Among the many things she loved, she especially cared for her special puppy, Pinto.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jesus and Juana Trujillo; her husband Manuel; her sons, Martin, Juan Manuel, and Panfilo Castillo; her daughter Concepcion Castillo; and brother Alvino Trujillo.

Esperanza is survived by her children; daughter Esperanza Lemus and husband Cecilio of San Angelo, Margarita Pedraza and husband Honorato of Mexico, Maria Juana Castillo of Ballinger, Rosa Maria Vera and husband Jose of San Antonio, and son Alfredo Castillo and wife Soledad of Ballinger; her three sisters Trinidad, Alicia, and Matiana; her three brothers Jesus, Calletano, and Jose; as well as 25 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be held for Esperanza at 6:00 pm on Monday, November 30, 2020, at the Chapel at Lange Funeral Home, and her Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at 10:00, am at St. Mary Star of The Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger with Father Yesu Mulakaleti celebrating.  Interment will follow at the Latin American Cemetery.  Due to current COVID restrictions, facemasks will be mandatory for all in attendance to both the rosary and mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.  The family wishes to thank Ballinger Home Health for the exceptional care they provided to Esperanza.
