Gene Ray Piel

September 6, 1947 — May 30, 2024

Gene Ray Piel, 76 of Del Rio passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, at his home.

He was born on September 6th, 1947, in Ballinger to David Willie and Tillie Margaret (Sturm) Piel. He married Mary Lynn Workman on May 17, 1968, in Ballinger and they shared fifty-two happy and loving years together. He was a father and worked as a fishing guide on lake Amistad from 1977 to 2010 and started a cabinet shop at home in 1994 that ran until 2022.

Gene Piel was a legend in his own right. He ran a successful fishing guiding service on Lake Amistad for 33 years. Many clients still remember the great times spent on the water with Gene as their guide. He had outstanding patience with taking kids fishing which provided some great memories to be made with their families.

Gene also was a master craftsman at woodworking and a man of many talents. Many people have quality furniture and cabinetry in their homes today because of Gene.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to everyone who crossed paths with Gene and enriched his life. He had a life well lived, and we are thankful to all the friends, family, and clients who made his life even richer.
