Glenda Faye Bryan, 83, of Winters, Texas, passed away Tuesday, September 1,
2020, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
Glenda was born May 24, 1937, in Talpa, Texas, to John Wesley and LaVerne Ray
Shelton. She attended schools in Talpa and Ballinger, graduating from Ballinger
High School in 1955. Though she was a true Bearcat, Glenda became a huge
supporter of the Winters Blizzards with four children and six grandchildren who all
were WHS graduates. She married Joe Bryan on January 24, 1956. For the first 21
years of their marriage, Glenda was a homemaker caring for her family and taking
an active role in assisting Joe with his farming operation. Like many farm wives,
she worked cattle, moved equipment, and accompanied him on the custom harvest
to South Texas to drive grain trucks to the elevator. In 1977, Glenda began her 2 nd
career at Selkirk-Dry Manufacturing working on the line making grills before
transitioning to the main office in 1986, totaling 33 years of service before her
retirement in 2010.
Glenda was baptized at Flatrock Crossing on Valley Creek. She and Joe were
faithful members of Old Norton Church of Christ. In recent years, she willingly
and graciously served her Lord and the Ninth Street Church of Christ in Ballinger,
participating in the Ladies Bible Study, and helping prepare and serve countless
meals, along with being a Meals on Wheels volunteer. Many children enjoyed
her Popcorn Balls each year for Halloween.
To her family, Glenda was the premier caregiver. Beginning with the death of her
father-in-law, for 42 years she selflessly cared for her mother-in-law, her parents,
her uncle, and her aunt as each of them spent time in local nursing homes. Most
certainly, she was greeted in heaven by those she had taken care of so lovingly.
Glenda’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark Allen Bryan; daughter, Sheila
Renee Bryan; brother, George Shelton; and sister, Dianne Bailey.
Glenda is survived by her loving husband, Joe, of Winters; daughter, Rebecca
Airhart and husband, Paul; son, Douglas Bryan and wife, Debbie, all of Winters;
daughter, Lisa Blake, and husband, Charles, of Norco, California; brother, Johnny
Shelton and wife, Meriam, of Christoval; and nine grandchildren: Jared Airhart,
Kinsey Airhart, and Kellyn Airhart Lesch, Rebecca Blake, Marcus Blake, Rachel
Blake, Cannon Bryan, Shelton Bryan, and Grace Bryan. Also surviving are three
great-grandchildren: C.W. Bryan, Elliott Airhart, and Birdie Lesch.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday,
September 7, at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Services will be on Tuesday,
September 8, at 10:30 am at North Main Church of Christ in Winters with Max
Pratt officiating. Burial will be at Wilmeth Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will
be Jared Airhart, Marcus Blake, Cannon Bryan, Shelton Bryan, Grace Bryan, Dane
Shelton, and Blaine Shelton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the Winters
Public Library, Meals on Wheels for Runnels County, or the Winters Area
Foundation Scholarship Fund.
