Hansel Ray Hoffman

August 29, 1941 — March 7, 2022

Hansel Ray Hoffman, 80, of Paint Rock, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2022, in Eden, Texas with his loving wife of over 54 years by his side. Hansel went to his forever resting place after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born on August 29, 1941, to Fred Arthur and Allie Louise (Davis) Hoffman, in rural Concho County.  Hansel graduated from Paint Rock High School in 1960. Then he began his lifelong passion of farming and ranching. On July 1, 1967, he married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Kiefer.  Together they shared over 54 beautiful years before his passing.   Hansel worked diligently with for Soil Conservation Service and is responsible for terraces in at least 5 counties. Hansel also passed on his love of farming, ranching, and working outdoors to his sons.  He farmed wheat for many years and tended to his sheep herd on the family farm and ranch in Concho County. Hansel enjoyed the thrill of hunting rattlesnakes and he often collected them for the Rattlesnake Round-up. He took his family on many trips to the Rattlesnake Round-Up where he enjoyed visiting with others that shared his excitement of rattlesnake hunting.  Gardening was also a favorite pastime for Hansel. He loved to tend to his vegetable garden and share the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He was a true outdoorsman; he enjoyed fishing and hunting and also dedicated a great deal of his time to his pecan trees.  During his later years of life, he spent many hours caring for his pecan trees and picking up and shelling pecans with his family.  His grandchildren will forever remember hanging out and picking up pecans with their beloved grandpa.  Hansel had quite the sense of humor and always had a riddle or a joke intended to make his grandchildren (or anyone else around) smile.  He was a man of few words but when he shared a story or joke it was always meant to bring happiness.

Hansel is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Allie Louise Hoffman, his sister Marie Hoffman, and brother Wayne Hoffman.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, his sons Larry Lyn Hoffman and wife Jessica of Ballinger, Shannon Ray Hoffman and wife Shakeah of Paint Rock, Casey Frederick Hoffman and wife Karen of Montgomery, Texas, and his daughter Bridgette Jonas and husband Justin of Christoval, Texas.  Hansel is also survived by his grandchildren, Skye Hoffman and fiancé’ Chris Porter, Stihl Hoffman, Sullivan Hoffman, Oliver Hoffman, Rose Hoffman, Macy Brown and husband Wes, Ginger Smith, and Levi Jonas, as well as four step-grandchildren, Jordan Hurt, Corbyn Hurt, Jaren Connell, and Kason Connell. Hansel is also survived by three brothers and one sister; Charles Hoffman and wife Debra, Troy Hoffman, Howard Hoffman, and Joann Mika.

Honorary Pallbearers are Arnold Tyler, Billy Jones, Delton Atwood, and Roy Bowman.
