Hilmer Leo Halfmann

January 25, 1939 — October 10, 2022

Hilmer Leo Halfmann, 83, of Olfen peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by family on October 10, 2022.

Hilmer was born January 25, 1939 in Olfen, Texas, to Anton and Alice Schrade Halfmann.  After graduating from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in 1958, he proudly served in the Army National Guard. On May 8, 1965, he married Waldeen Koenning in Orange Grove, Texas.

God, family, and farming were Hilmer’s passions.  He was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, where he was a long-time choir member and also the Knights of Columbus, where he served as treasurer for many years. Hilmer especially took great pride in maintaining the beauty of St. Boniface cemetery for the community.

Hilmer found joy in playing the piano, accordion, and guitar for himself, his kids, and grandkids, and was always up for a good game of dominoes.

Always a kind and gentle man, however, weeds were Hilmer’s main nemesis. Therefore, he could usually be found either on a tractor or with a hoe in his hand, tending his well-kept farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers-in-law, Erwin Kleypas, Jerry Bolen, and Earl Koenning.

Survivors include wife of 57 years, Waldeen; son, Stephen Halfmann and wife, Michele of Miles, daughters Janna Price and husband Jeremy of Franklin, Deanna Faubion and husband Brian of Miles, and Laura Parks and husband Cody of Lawn; grandchildren Justin Halfmann of San Angelo, Troy Halfmann and wife Hannah of Bay City, Leah Ray and husband Hayden of Rowena, Jada Ennis and husband Micah of Willis, Megan Wilson and husband Joel of Wheelock, Avery, Ryan, Olivia, Porter and Liam Faubion of Miles, and Oliver, Evelyn and Maverick of Lawn; as well as 2 great-grandchildren, Theodore Ennis and Emry Halfmann.

A rosary service will be held for Hilmer on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at 6:30 pm at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen, Texas.  The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 10:00 am, also at St. Boniface with Father Ariel Lagunilla celebrating. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.

The family of Hilmer Halfmann would like to extend a special thanks to the following: Tony Frasco for his spiritual companionship; Father Ariel for his commitment to ministering to those in the local nursing homes, and Kindred Hospice and their compassionate nursing staff, in particular, Annalyn, his personal favorite.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pregnancy Help Center of San Angelo, Meals for the Elderly, or a charity of choice in Hilmer’s honor.
