Irma Mata, 86, of Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 22, 2025.
Irma was born on July 1, 1938, in Ballinger, Texas, and her life was defined by faith, love, and service to others. She worked as a devoted nurse at Ballinger Memorial Hospital and San Angelo Community Medical Center, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and care.
On August 15, 1956, Irma married the love of her life, Frank Mata, Sr. Together they built a beautiful life and shared 69 beautiful years together and had five beautiful children, four boys and one girl, Frank Jr., Anthony, Robert, Mario Joseph, and Stephanie Mata. Irma especially loved reading her romance stories on her computer. She enjoyed sewing and the companionship of her chihuahua, Zacko, but above all Irma loved being a Mama to her wonderful family.
Surviving relatives include her children and grandchildren; Michell Mata, Amanda Mata, Frank Mata III, Feliciana Mata, Audrea Mata, Ashley Dawn Mata, Matthew Mata, Yvonne Mata, and Craig Rose. As well as her fifteen great grandchildren.
A rosary will be held in her honor on Friday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the chapel at Lange Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Saturday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with interment following at the Latin American Cemetery. A lunch and reception will follow at St. Mary’s Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Irma’s memory.
Irma will be remembered for her kind heart, her unwavering faith, and the love she gave so freely to everyone around her.
