Jack Phillip Hoxsey

January 8, 1949 — April 26, 2020

We are gathered here to celebrate and remember the life of Jack Phillip Hoxsey Sr. He was called home to his lord on Sun, April 26 th in Belton, TX.

Jack was one of seven children born to Richard and Florence Hoxsey. He came into this world in Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky On 1/08/1949 followed minutes later by his brother David who has continued to claim that Jack might be older but he was the prettier one.  During his 71 years on this earth, Jack accomplished many things. Jack was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. Serving his country from 1967-1969 as a proud member of The Big Red One.  He also worked in many fields. Always finding a way to succeed and serve others. Jack has never met a stranger.   He was a truck driver for many years as well as a roofer, tree trimmer, and even spent some time working in the oil fields. He lived in many places and always had storied to share of his travels.

Jack met his loving and feisty wife when actually attempting to take Mary Colleen's sister on a date. What began as a simple plan on her part to get a free movie and dinner ended when he finally wore her down and put a ring on her finger on April 10 th , 1967. Jack and Mary colleen Hoxsey celebrated their love for 53 years this year. They moved to Texas in the 1970s where they grew their family Which includes 3 children Lisa Marie Hoxsey, Jack Phillip Hoxsey JR, and Denice Lynn Hoxsey Collins.  6 Grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous adopted children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In his leisure time, Jack enjoyed camping fishing and telling many, many, many tall tales of how he lost his thumb. He also liked telling tales of what became of his lost thumb. One of his favorites was telling anyone who would listen that his bronze lighter was his actual thumb, encased in bronze to preserve it. The real fate of his thumb isn’t as funny so let’s remember his lost thumb the way he wanted us to because all of those tales and storied remind of who jack was. He will keep us laughing for years to come as we remember him for all the funny things he has done.

Jack was a loving son, brother, husband, uncle, and the very best grandfather and great grandfather that anyone could ask for.

A graveside service will be held for Jack on Thursday, April 30, 2020, at 2:00 pm at Paint Rock Cemetery, in Paint Rock, Texas.  Pastor Ryan Matlock will officiate.  A recording of Jack's service will be available later that day for viewing on his obituary.
