James Marlin Davis

December 9, 1931 — December 9, 2021

James Marlin Davis, 90, of Norton, TX left for his heavenly home on his birthday, Thursday, December 9, 2021.

He was born on December 9, 1931, to Clyde Cash “Pouch” and Clara Belle “Nanna” Davis in Maverick, TX.  On February 1, 1951 he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Nell Hambright. Together they shared over 61 beautiful years before her passing in 2012.  He found companionship again and fell in love with Faye Urbantke.  They were married in August 2013 until she passed away in April 2021. Marlin spent his life as a farmer and rancher. He was a good and faithful servant to his Lord and his community.  He served as a Deacon and an Elder for his church at the 9th Street Church of Christ for many years.  Marlin also served with the Norton Lions Club.  He loved his family, his community, and his God above all.  If you knew Marlin, you knew he never met a stranger, and could tell in detail the history of everything and everyone he had ever shared any time with.  Marlin loved ALL people well, especially those close to him.  He enjoyed playing cards and dominos with his friends and family.  Marlin found great pleasure in traveling with his family to see all of this “beautiful country” but he always had a special place in his heart for his home in Norton.  After returning home, he wanted to start planning his next trip, but his favorite place to visit was the last place he went.  Now he is in a country more beautiful than anything he experienced here, with his Lord and Savior.

He is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Clara, his first wife Nell, and his second wife Faye.

Marlin is survived by his daughters who affectionately called him “daddy,” Nelda Griffin and husband Dan of San Angelo, and Twila Teague and husband David of San Antonio.  He is also survived by his grandchildren who knew him as “Papaw,” Heather McCulley and husband Monty, Ashley Henderson and husband Josh, Greg Griffin and wife Sarah, and Cash Teague and wife Lauren.  Papaw will be dearly remembered by his great-grandchildren Caleb, Ashlyn, Clara, and Hudson McCulley, Liam and Coralea Henderson, Ryder, Micah, and Levi Teague, Graeme and Evelyn Griffin.  He is also survived by his sister Loveta Gray and brother Ronnie Davis and wife Francis, as well as his step-children Gerald Urbantke and wife Leisa and Earlene and husband Dan.

A visitation for Marlin will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger.  His service will follow on Monday, December 13, 2021, at 1:00 pm at 9th Street Church of Christ, also in Ballinger, with Monty McCulley and Max Pratt officiating.  Interment will follow at Old Runnels Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in Marlin’s Name.

The family wishes to thank the Norton community, his church family, and all those that cared for him over these last months.
