Jose "Joe" Angel Gonzales

August 2, 1944 — December 16, 2021

Jose Angel Gonzales, 77, of Ballinger, Texas passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 16, 2021.

He was born on August 2, 1944, to Mike and Paula Gonzales in Gonzales, Texas. Jose married Olivia Perez in 1964 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger, Texas and together they shared over 57 years of ups and downs, laughs and tears, and remained together through it all. He worked for over 30 years for the Texas State Highway Department.

Jose is survived by his wife Olivia Gonzales, son Joe Gonzales Jr., daughter Betty Arp and husband Phillip. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Amber Halfmann, Jacob Arp and wife Whitney, Jessica Arp, Dillon Halfmann, Drew Arp, and one great-grandson Samuel Arp Hendricks.

Dad loved fishing and golf. There’s no denying his second home was the Country Club, where he gathered with friends. The beer was cold, lots of laughs were had and the BS was endless. Jose will be missed by friends and family. We can only imagine that he is now in that Big Country Club in the Heavens, where the greens are beautiful and the sand traps are easy, the beer is cold and his new friends Byron, Sam, and Arnold are giving him great tips on his game. Hit them straight Dad. Thanks for the sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ballinger Country Club Association in Jose’s honor. The family wishes to thank the staff at Shannon Hospital, especially Hayley, and everyone at Hospice of San Angelo.

A private family ceremony will be held at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger.
