Joseph (Joe) Joshua Freeman, Jr

Joe J. Freeman Jr., 99, of Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2020.

He was born on Sunday, September 4, 1921, to Joseph Joshua and Edith A (Arnold) Freeman Sr.  in Bristow, Oklahoma.  Joe spent nearly all of his life in West Texas. He grew up in Fort McKavett and attended school in Menard before graduating from San Angelo High School in 1937.  He served honorably in the United States Armed Services as a Captain for the Army Air Corp.  Joe Married Florence Elizabeth Kellam on April 20, 1945, in Waycross, GA. Together they enjoyed 59 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on October 30, 2004.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Edith Freeman Sr., his wife Florence Elizabeth Freeman, his grandson Bob Jennings Jr., and his brothers Dan and Charles Freeman.

He is survived by his daughter Carol Jennings and husband Bobby of Ballinger, son Jimmy Freeman and wife Peggy of Ballinger, and daughter Linda Cowart and husband David also of Ballinger.   Joe is also survived by his grandsons Stephen Freeman, Matt Freeman, and wife Sonia, Luke Cowart, Josh Cowart, and Bryan Jennings; as well as his sister Edith Hubbell and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service honoring Joe will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2020, at 11:00 am at the 8 th St, First Baptist Church in Ballinger with Bracken Bean officiating.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any charitable organization in his honor.

The family wishes to give special thanks to all of the incredible caregivers that went above and beyond to provide exceptional care to Joe, including Rosemarie, Darlene, LuAnn, Sylvia, Donna, and Regina.
