Lanora (Nora) Alan Harvey (79) Obituary

Lanora ran into the arms of Jesus on June 12, 2020. She was born in Alpine, Texas on September 24, 1940, to Ora Lee Fletcher McDonell and Angus Allen McDonell. She was the youngest of three girls.  She grew up in the southwestern area of Texas. In 1959 She graduated from Valentine High School in Valentine, Texas. While in HS she was the captain of her basketball team and was voted Most Valuable Player her Senior Year.

Nora met the love of her life, David Allen Harvey, in Sanderson, Texas. They were married in 1962 in Sanderson, Texas. David got a job building Baptist churches across New Mexico and Arizona. While on their “road trip” across the southwest, Nora gave birth to her daughter, Mary Katherine (Tootie) in 1965 and her son Allen Ray (Birdy) in 1966. They then returned to live in Odessa, Texas. Nora was a homemaker and a school bus driver. She always loved animals and the family had every domestic animal known to man. She loved taking care of her animals and loved riding horses.

In 1978 the family moved to Paint Rock, Texas. This is where Nora and David spent the rest of their lives. They had found their home. Nora was highly active in the community. She went to all the school events to support her children and later her grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She helped to create the Emergency Medical Service in Concho County. She was one of the first EMTs in Paint Rock. She was also a school bus driver for Paint Rock ISD. She was active in City Council, the Fire Department, and the School Board. She was also President of the Paint Rock Cemetery Committee. Most all of Paint Rock’s residents called her either Aunt Nora or Grandma. She was loved by all the people in Paint Rock.

Nora will always be remembered for her kindness, her love of everyone, and her generosity. Nora never knew a stranger! To her strangers were just friends she hadn’t met yet. It wasn’t long before those friends became family members.

Nora was blessed to have her nieces and nephews in her life. She was the Mother figure in all their lives. She relied on her niece, Frances Maupin who was her second daughter. Frances put her life on hold to care for Nora as she underwent the trial of Pancreatic Cancer and survived. Frances dedicated her life to taking care of Nora and David. Frances always had a special place in Nora’s heart.

Nora is survived by her daughter Mary Noble from Montana, her nieces Frances Maupin, Cindy Griswald, and Leila Evans all from Paint Rock, her nephew George Evans (Jan) from Huntsville, her daughter in law Pamela Barrow from San Angelo, and her grandchildren: Ryan Barrow from Midland; Shannon Harvey from San Angelo; David Charles Harvey from Ohio; Anna Maupin from San Angelo; Matthew Evans (Charity) from Virginia; Tasha Gray (Seth)  from Ballinger; Amanda Evans from San Angelo; Melanie Granado from Menard; Wesley Evans from Oregon; JR Griswald (Casey) from Paint Rock; Will Evans (Amber) from Ballinger and numerous great-grandchildren.
