Lula Mabel Marecek, 91, of Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.
She was born on April 13, 1930, to Albert and Annie (Ernst) Schwertner on the family cotton farm just between Miles and Rowena. Lula worked as hard as anyone on her family farm, she even went to driving the family tractor when her brother was drafted during World War II. On January 28, 1947, she married the love of her life, Bernie Rudolph Marecek, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rowena, Texas. Together they shared many beautiful years before his passing in 2001. Lula worked their family farm together and never complained about the work. She always put others first and would help anyone that needed it. Lula also made the best Kolaches in the world. She was also a member of the VFW.
Lula is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Annie Schwertner, her loving husband Bernie Marecek, her son Ronnie James Marecek, her sisters Leona Marie Dorotik, Vera Simpson, Augusta Franke, and Josey Gentry, and her brother Ernest Schwertner.
She is survived by her sons Dan Marecek of Rowena, Texas, and Glen Marecek and wife Mary of Waco, Texas. Lula is also survived by her best friend and loving caregiver Anita Martinez.
A rosary will be held for Lula on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 6:00 pm at the chapel at Lange Funeral Home. Her graveside service will be held the following day on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 2:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. Father Ariel Lagunilla will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lula’s name.
