Mack Smith (DaDa), 90, of Ballinger, Texas, went home to be with the Lord July 9, 2019.
The last of twelve children, he was born August 14, 1923 in Marlin, Texas. Mack moved to Ballinger in 1972, where he eventually met Pauline Johnson. She was a mother of ten children, and even though he knew this, it did not change his mind. He took on the responsibility and helped raise her children. He did an excellent job and the children (now adults) ae forever grateful. It takes a strong man to raise a village!
Mack Smith was an example of what an amazing man is, even up to his passing. He was a prover, a listening ear, an amazing storyteller of his past, a great father and grandfather. He will always be remembered for these traits, but he will also be remembered for making the BEST BARBECUE! This was something he loved to do – fire up the pit. Mack was truly an amazing man and everyone he has crossed paths with would definitely agree.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Pauline Johnson, and step-son, Clifford Johnson.
Mack is survived by his family, Oscar Wayne Johnson of Dallas, Curtis Johnson of San Angelo, Claude Johnson of Ballinger, Larry Johnson of Dallas, Charlotte Smith of Montgomery, Alabama, Jeanette Johnson, Jennifer Gray, and Michelle Johnson all of San Angelo, and Evelyn Johnson of Austin; several grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, including Kenneth Smith of Grand Prairie, and Onnie Johnson of Ballinger.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 12, at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 13, at Lange Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories.
