Martha Allene Plumley Horton, 79, of Ballinger, Texas, went to be with the Lord on August 21, 2024, peacefully at Shannon Hospital, surrounded by her family. Martha was born on January 11, 1945, in San Angelo, Texas, to Albert and Bernice (Davee) Plumley, alongside six brothers and four sisters. She is now survived by Kenneth (Kay) Plumley, Carolyn (Gene) Roberts, Clara (Harold) Horton, Charles Plumley, and James Ray Plumley.
Martha married her best friend and love of her life, Mirl Dean Horton, on November 25th, 1959, and spent 54 long years together. During this time, they were blessed with six more mouths to feed, Virgil "Rusty" Horton and wife Loretta of Lampasas, Tx; Edward "Peewee" Horton and wife Karen of Ballinger, Tx; Roy "Skeeter" Horton and Wife Lois of Bastrop, Tx, Joseph Allen "Buttons" Horton and wife Vickie of Longtown, Oklahoma, Mirl “Shorty” Horton and wife Charlie of Ballinger, Tx and Martha “Sissy” Horton of Ballinger, Tx. She gained a few more titles along the way; "grandma," "nana," and "Gigi," with 28 grandkids, Georgetta (Louie) Esquivel, Charlotte (Nathan) Ross, Virgil (Paige) Horton, Kara Horton, Josh Horton, Zack Horton, Amanda Grayson, Megan (Visar) Halilaj, Jessie (David) Kresta, Jacque (Jordan) Horton, Allie (Chris) Sterling, Nickie Horton, Natasha Southerland, Andrea Horton, Carlos (Kayla) Cavazos, Summer Newton, Brandy Rock, Avery Rock, and Amber Horton, as well as 42 great-grandkids.
Martha was a devoted, faithful Christian with an artistic touch who wasn’t afraid of a power tool. She loved to be surrounded by her family, painting, crocheting, and being in the presence of God.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Bernice Plumley; her husband, Mirl Dean; and her brothers, Carl, Virgil, and Terri Plumley; sisters, Dorthey Plumley and Elizabeth Booth; grandkids Heath Horton and Summer Newton; and great-grandkid Liam Stewart; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
The Horton Family would like to extend a hand of gratitude to New Life Refuge Church in Ballinger, The Mid-West Texas Art Guild, and Nurse B at Shannon for making her feel special in her last days.
A Visitation will be held Monday, August 26, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, Texas. The Funeral will Follow Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Lange Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Wilmeth Cemetery. The family wishes to invite everyone to the New Life Refuge Church fellowship hall following the services to rejoice about Martha’s life.
