Mike Egan

August 10, 1935 — November 14, 2022

Michael Moore Egan, 87, of Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, November 14, 2022.

He was born on August 10, 1935, to Thomas and Mable (Moore) Egan in Ballinger, Texas. One of the last surviving members of the Ballinger Bearcat 1953 State Finalist Football Team, he was a proud Bearcat. On February 14, 1958, he married the love of his life, Virginia Lee Harral, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church.  Together they shared over 64 years and built a beautiful family in the process.  While he was a dairyman, Michael also served on multiple boards including president of the school board, 1971 Star Young Farm, Associated Milk Producers Incorporated, 1985 Rural Citizen of the Year. Mike also served in the military as a member of the Army National Guard.  While he loved the great outdoors, especially his family farm, what made it the most special are the memories he made there with his family, whom he adored.  Mike was the proudest of his daughters and his grandchildren that called him “Gaggy.” He was quoted as always saying he “had the perfect life.” He treasured the times spent for 78 years on the farm west of Ballinger on the Colorado River.  The memories he made first with his wife Jenny, his three girls, the grandchildren, and most recently his great-grandchildren were his perfect life.  These memories spanned decades of picnics on the river, midnight irrigation runs, holidays around the table, and singing around the piano.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Mable Egan, his sister Anne Hermann, brothers Tommy and Danny Egan, his father and mother-in-law James and Hazel Harral, brother-in-laws Elmer Harral and Paul Harral, and sisters-in-law Dorothy Camp, Darline Jones, and Mary Cole.

He is survived by his wife Virginia, daughters Terry Graham of Abilene, Michele Jones and husband Brent of Ballinger, and Carolyn Studer and husband Tom of Ballinger. He will be tenderly missed as well by his grandchildren Mike Graham and wife YoungMi, Nathan Graham, and Zachary Graham, Ryan Jones and wife Kendra, Matt Jones and wife Robynn,  Taylor Jones and wife Danielle, Molly Tipps and husband Brandon, Russell Studer and wife Crystal, and Stephen Studer. Mike is also survived by his great-grandchildren Ale and Owen Graham, Trent, Colt, and Ross Jones (who shared his birthday), Kasey and Ty Jones, Zachary and Rylie Jones, Brody, Colter, and Amelia Studer.  He will also be missed by his twin brother Jerry Egan.  Lastly, he will be fondly remembered by his closest animal companion, his dog Susie.

A wake service for Mike will be held at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, Texas, Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 6:00 pm.  His Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday, November 18, 2022, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Rowena, Texas with Father Ariel Lagunilla celebrating.  Interment will follow at Garden of Memories cemetery in Ballinger.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your charity in Mike’s name.

The family wishes to thank Ballinger Home Health and Hospice for their tender loving care.
