Narciso "Shorty" Prado Contreras

Narciso Prado Contreras, 65, of Ballinger, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, May 29, 2021.

He was born on November 29, 1955, to Federico and Concepcion (Prado) Contreras in San Felipe Guanajuato, Mexico.  He met the love of his life Vicenta Vasquez in the summer of 1987 and they were married on June 17, 2000 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger, Texas. Together they shared 34 beautiful years.  Narciso was a hard worker, an exceptionally dedicated husband, father, and church member.  He worked for over 30 years as a rancher.  Together, Narciso and Vicenta served with the Guadalupanas at St. Mary Star of the Sea.

Narciso is preceded in death by his parents, Federico and Concepcion Contreras, his sons Manuel Vasquez and Paul Vasquez; his siblings Catarino Contreras, Ignacio Contreras, Pedro Contreras, Carmen Contreras Hernandez, and Marcos Contreras.

He is survived by his wife, Vicenta, his daughter Sylvia Ibarra of San Angelo, sons Sammy Chapoy of San Angelo and Joe Escobar of San Antonio. Narciso is also survived by his siblings Antonio Contreras, Saturnino Contreras, Isabel Contreras Renteria, and Teresa Contreras Rangel.  He will also be greatly missed by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and so many more.

A rosary will be held for Narciso on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 6:00 PM at the chapel at Lange Funeral Home.  His Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger with Fr. Yesu Mulakaleti celebrating.  Interment will follow at the Latin American Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Narciso’s honor.

The family wishes to thank St. Gabriel’s Hospice for their tender love and care of Narciso and his family during these last difficult days. Also, the family would like to thank family, friends, and Guadalupanas for their emotional support and assistance throughout their time of need.  A special thanks to Debra Roberts for being an angel here on earth for the family and giving them the extra time they were fortunate to have with Narciso.
