The Bryan family sadly announces the passing of their matriarch, Neita Ashmore Bryan, 96, on Thursday, April 12, 2018. Neita has gone on to rejoin her beloved forever husband of 76 years, Ray M. Bryan in the loving arms of our Lord.
Neita and Ray were childhood sweethearts. As teenagers they grew up on adjoining ranches in the Rockwood area. In 1941, Ray escaped the tough economy by moving to California by himself. Lonely for his first love, he sent Neita a proposal of marriage. They were wed in Santa Monica, California in 1942. They continued to make their home there for the next 39 years. During World War II Neita was a typical Rosie the Riveter, for the war effort. Post war, Neita a homemaker then, lovingly nursed Ray’s recovery from combat wounds he sustained during the battle of Okinawa. Neita raised three devoted children, Helen, Gary, and Susan. Returning to Texas in the early1980’s, Neita and Ray created a lovely retirement home in Ballinger. At that time, they were surrounded by their large extended family and many friends.
At Neita and Ray’s request there will not be funeral services. A private family gravesite internment, in the family plot, in Rockwood is to be held at a future date.
