Patricia Sue Sims

May 1, 1941 — January 22, 2025

Paint Rock

It is January 22, 2025. The roundup has ended, the work complete. The sun has set, the air brisk, and the mockingbird recently bid the rangeland a melodious “goodnight.” The riders are mounted, their horse’s hooves thundering on the earth beneath them, anxiously awaiting their final destination. Sue T Sims gives Pat Horse his head and gallops behind the Good Shepherd down the Happy Trail to Eternity….

Patricia Sue Tankersley Sims was born to Max Orel Tankersley and Aletha Mae “Ty” Faught Tankersley, May 1, 1941. Sue’s fondest memories were those involving horses, her brothers and sister, and neighboring friends enjoying life on the Tankersley Ranch. A part of her was left at that home when she was forced to “move to town” aka Mertzon, Tx.

August 21, 1965, Sue married Benjamin Orland Sims and was a wonderful wife and mother to two girls, Catherine Sue and Robyn Gay. Sue was also a top-notch ranch hand for the family’s ranching operation, happiest atop a horse, working sheep. Sue served her community of Paint Rock, TX as librarian, 4-H leader, church organist, and even mayor. She served her county as a member of the Child Welfare Board and a longtime member of the Concho Hospital Board. Whatever Sue set her sights on as a cause to believe in, she defended and fought for with fervor.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, beloved “Benny,” cherished daughter Cathy, and brother Max. She is survived by her daughter Robyn and husband Michael Lockett, adored grandson John Ledford and wife Ambry, brothers Neil, and Gary, wife Diana, sisters Annie Pruitt and Cynthia McCammon, and husband Mike. She is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews and Sister in Christ, Susie Kingston.

There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial held at the Paint Rock Community Church at 11:00 am on February 22, 2025. Honorary pallbearers will be Neil Tankersley, Gary Tankersley, Michael Lockett, John Ledford, Billy Sims, and Bill Campbell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to charities or causes of choice, a gift to someone in need, or simply share a smile with a stranger along the path.

A special thanks to Concho Health and Rehabilitation Center, Hospice of San Angelo, Garrilyn Reed, and Lindra Halfmann for their care and love for Sue the past few years.
