Richard Flint Dillon, 96 of Miles, Texas passed away December 14, 2024.
He was born Feb 14, 1928, in Quanah, Texas to James and Susanne (Stuckey) Dillon. Richard served in Japan with the US Army reaching the rank of Seargent and upon his return married the love of his life, Naomi Joy Grubbs on Dec 24, 1949. After serving his country he earned a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in World history from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and began a teaching career in Oklahoma, retiring in San Angelo Texas after stints at Lakeview, San Angelo College and Central High School. Richard was an avid golfer and friend to many who played the game in and around San Angelo. Before relocating to Texas, he served as a basketball referee for both High School and College and participated in Factory League Basketball and baseball leagues throughout Oklahoma.
He is survived by three children: Tony Dillon (Pam) of Miles, TX; Patsy Middlebrook (Steve) of San Antonio, TX; and Andrew Dillon of Chestertown, Maryland. Grandchildren include Tonia Anderson, Scott Dillon and wife Stephanie, Austin Dillon, Denee' Pavese and husband Rob, Bryce Middlebrook, Regan Dillon, Brian and Jennifer Dillon and Amy Rachelle along with many great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Joy and eldest son Larry Dillon. A memorial service will be held on January 11, 2025, at 10:00 am at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Miles, Texas with Bryan Swecker officiating. Interment will be in Savanna, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Miles Community Library or to St. Jude’s Children Hospital in Richard’s name.
