Robert "Bobby" Schwertner

Robert “Bobby” Schwertner, 87, of Rowena passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and congestive heart failure.

He was born January 25, 1931 to Frank Schwertner and Adala (Ernst) in the Crossroad community.  He married Dorothy Kloesel on April 24, 1954 in Rowena.  He was a farmer all of his life. In 1978, he was named the Runnels Soil and Conservation District’s Outstanding Conservation Farmer.  Bobby was on the board of the Farm Bureau, member of the Knights of Columbus in Rowena, helped organize and was a past member of the Cross Road Gun Club, and a member of the Rowena VFD.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Ludwig and Victor Schwertner, Dora Pechacek, Lilly Schraer, and Katherine Werner.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Rowena; his daughter, Ruth Halfman and husband, Mark of San Angelo; and grandson, Kyle Halfman and wife, Chelsea of Euless, TX.

Visitation for family and friends will be at 5:00 pm on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena with the rosary following at 6:00 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Ariel Lagunilla celebrating.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

In addition to Masses, memorials can be made to St. Joseph Building Fund, 506 Edwards, Rowena 76865; or, a favorite charity.  A very special thank you to all the staff of Shannon Regional Heart Center, Shannon Clinic, Shannon Medical Center, Encompass Home Health and Ballinger Health and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care provided.
