Roy Edwin Huckabee

Roy Edwin Huckabee, 83, of Miles, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

He was born on August 5, 1941, on a rural farm in Caradan, Texas to Elton Lesly and Mildred (Wilcox) Huckabee. Roy married the love of his life, Bettye Joyce Carter, in a ceremony on June 04, 1960, in Ballinger, Texas. Together, they shared 49 beautiful years before her passing in February of 2009. Roy was a hardworking man who cherished his family above all. He worked for Miles ISD until his retirement but could be found working as a typesetter for the newspapers in every single town he lived in, from the Miles Messenger to the San Angelo News. Roy was also an avid reader who enjoyed Western novels. His family and faith were his top priorities. His belief in the Lord was a firm foundation for his life's work. He was also a Mason of the 33rd degree. 

Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Mildred Huckabee, his wife of 49 years, Bettye Joyce, nephew Thomas Huckabee, and his sister-in-law Ann Huckabee.

He is survived by his children, son Raymond Huckabee and wife Angelia, son Rodney Huckabee and wife Darlene, his daughter Karen Westbrook and husband Weldon, his brother Bob Huckabee, and his sister Ruth "Sissy" Mannen and husband Bill. Roy will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Dana Garcia, Damon Huckabee, Stacy Westbrook, Tracy Westbrook,Zachary Westbrook,Justin Ramirez, Cody Parker, Kristen Sanders, Amber Sanders, Natalie Grooms, Isaiah Grooms, and Bronson Huckabee. Great-grandchildren include Jade Garcia, Kaya Garcia, Natalie Huckabee, Lailah Huckabee, Gaige Huckabee, George Simmons, Elizabeth Simmons, Katelynn Huckabee, Damon Ronnie Huckabee, Jr., Max Bradley, Kylie Bradley, Skylar Gandy, Ayden Gandy, Rosalynne Valente, Brianna Berryhill, Orion Berryhill, Betsy Westbrook, Cecil Fritze, James McGary, Jayla Ramirez, Thomas Sanchez, Alice Langford, Jazmine Ramirez, Cameron Parker, Marcos Torres, Avianna Torres, Cadence Garcia, Tanner Sanders, and two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Roy will be held at Lange Funeral Home on December 20, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. His graveside service will follow on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Goldthwaite, Texas with Joseph Buse officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research in Roy's name.
