Sandra Kay Wood, 68, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at her home on Saturday, April 24, 2021.
She was born on February 12, 1953, to Chester H. and Beulah M. (Rine) Stevens, Jr in Martinez, California. After attending some college, she went on to work for the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Sandy married the love of her life Ronald “Ron” Wood on December 11, 1990, in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Together the two shared over 30 blissful and love-filled years with their two daughters. Sandy made friends quickly and did not know a stranger. Not only did she make friends easily, she kept those friendships throughout her life despite gladly moving around the country as Ron pursued his career. She was the definition of class who loved to share her home with friends and neighbors as often as possible. During the time she and Ron lived at their Phat Possum Ranch in Miles, Texas, she was considered the “Queen of the Ranch” with business cards as proof. She had a deep love for country music and was the self-declared “Queen of Country,” able to name almost any artist when asked. She grew up in a loving family who treasured simple joys, one of which was square dancing at venues all around the San Francisco Bay Area. Sandy was the proud recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow recognition awarded by the Rotary International Foundation. This honor was bestowed upon her by her friends in the Ballinger Rotary Club, which reflected their great affection for her and her giving spirit.
Most of all, Sandy excelled at making a home for her husband and two daughters whom she raised in her image of goodness and care for others. She and her family attended PaulAnn Church in San Angelo, Texas, and she had a deep Christian faith, which she shared through her gentle nature. She knew no limit in answering the needs of her family and always did so with heartfelt love, a generous heart, and her infectious smile.
Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Chester and Beulah Stevens, Jr. and her brother David Stevens.
She is survived by her husband Ron; her daughter Deanna Kelly and husband Sean, of Middletown, New Jersey, and their children Quinn and Madelynn; her daughter, Caitlin Wood of San Angelo, Texas and her boyfriend Kevin Brock of Mooresville, North Carolina; and her niece Jennifer Napier of Arlington, Washington. Sandy is also survived by several aunts and numerous cousins who supported her throughout her life but particularly during her illness.
A celebration of life will be held for Sandy on Saturday, May 8 th at 3:00 pm at the Impakt Building at PaulAnn Church with Dr. Randel Everett, presiding. Facemasks are encouraged at the service for all in attendance at the request of the family.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Shannon Clinic, particularly Sandy’s oncology and primary care team. They would also like to especially thank the staff and nurses of Ballinger Home Health and Hospice for their tender love and care of Sandy during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandy’s honor to MD Anderson Cancer Center or San Angelo Young Life
