Valeria Ann Hoelscher

October 24, 1942 — July 15, 2023

Valeria Ann Hoelscher, 80, of Rowena, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas.

She was born on October 24, 1942, to Mat and Mary (Kubenka) Kalina in Rowena, Texas.  She married the love of her life LeRoy Hoelscher on August 5, 1963, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Together they shared almost 60 beautiful years of marriage before her passing.  Valeria was a hard-working woman; she served as the deputy tax collector/assessor and managed the Sherriff’s office for over 20 years.  She was a member of the St. Theresa Altar Society in St. Lawrence, was in charge of altar cloths at St. Lawrence Catholic Church for many years, and crocheted angels for ABC ministries.  She enjoyed supporting and attending any sporting event her grandkids did. She was an active member of the St. Lawrence quilting group and her bunco group. She was a “Mawmaw” to everyone and enjoyed cooking for anyone who came to visit. Her kids’ friends, grandkids’ friends, and other guests were always welcome in her home, and she made them feel like family.

Valeria is preceded in death by her parents Matt and Mary Kalina, her brothers Bennie Kalina, Sydney Kalina, and Harry Kalina, and sisters Alice Gleich and Germaine Hoelscher.

She is survived by her husband LeRoy, children, Marianne Hirt (Duane), Douglas Hoelscher (Krisha), Carol Hoelscher (Donnie Moore), Dana Immel (Stuart), and Allen Hoelscher (Shahala), her siblings Marcel Kalina and wife Annie Lois, brother-in-law Stanley Gleich, sister-in-law Clara Kalina, and sister-in-law Betsy Kalina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her grandkids Colby Hirt (Brittni), Erin Callan (Chris), Blayne Batla (Hailey), Sutton Hoelscher, Cassie Hirt, Katelyn Williams (Edward), Bryson Batla (Erica), Abigail Hoelscher, Cory Immel, Brooklyn Batla, Harlea Hoelscher, Kinley Hoelscher, and Braxton Hoelscher. Great Grandchildren Holden Batla, Ember Hirt, Chance Callan, and two on the way.

Pallbearers will be Colby Hirt, Blayne Batla, Sutton Hoelscher, Bryson Batla, Cory Immel and Braxton Hoelscher. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Callan, Edward Williams, Brandon Schaefer, Aaron Dixon, Joseph Kalina, Joe Hoelscher, and Dwayne Hoelscher.

A rosary will be held for Valeria on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena, Texas.  Her Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at 10:00 am also at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena with Father Ariel Lagunilla celebrating.  Interment will follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Olfen.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ABC Ministry’s PO Box 65 Midkiff, Texas 79755 or a charity of choice in Valeria’s honor.
