Vonda Jean (Burris) Charles

Vonda Jean Charles, 74, of Norton, Texas, passed to her permanent home in Heaven on Friday, January 14, 2022.

She was born on July 12, 1947, to LeRoy and Mildred (Burks) Burris in Ballinger, Texas. Vonda was best known for her role as Activity Director for the nursing home in Ballinger for over 20 years.  She loved her residents and loved doing things for them from directing parades, shopping with and for them, and reading to them daily.   After her retirement, she was a meticulous housekeeper, and spent time knitting and crocheting beside her dog Rowdy.  So much like her mother Mildred, she liked things done when she wanted them done.  She loved her plants and flowers.  She most loved looking at God’s creations.

Vonda is preceded in death by her parents LeRoy and Mildred Burris, and her husband.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Hayes and wife DeeDee, daughter Mandy Benes and husband Corey, and grandchildren Austin Clark, Kaci Clark, Ryan Benes, Gage Benes, Cole Clifton, and Jordan Hayes.  Vonda will also be greatly missed by her sister Lin Rostine and husband Bob, her brother Kevin Burris and wife Deana, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will precede her funeral service at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Glory Road Cowboy Church.  Her funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Myron Halford officiating.  Interment will follow at Norton Cemetery in Norton, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glory Road Cowboy Church in Vonda’s honor.
