Vonna Jean Peek

Vonna Jean Peek, 83, of Paint Rock, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024.

She was born on November 14, 1940, to Walter and Geneva (Mannon) Christopher in Rector, Arkansas. At the age of 13, the family moved to Fenton Michigan where she graduated high school. She married Milton Peek, on July 25, 1962, in Eola, Texas.  Vonna created a beautiful life for herself in the community of Paint Rock, where she raised several generations of local children from 1970 up until her hospitalization in late 2023.  One of her greatest loves was raising children through her childcare services, and she took pride in how she gave those children a good head start for school.  Vonna loved the community of Paint Rock, and the town loved her back.  Vonna also enjoyed sewing, baking, and gardening. She especially loved her church and the friends that she made there. Vonna also worked as treasurer for her church and Hermann Sons.

Vonna is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Geneva Christopher, her husband Milton Peek, her sisters Verla Christopher and Sharon Wildmo, and her brothers Wayne, Cecil, Darrel, and Roger Christopher.

She is survived by her children, daughter Darla Domingo and husband Randy of Hawaii, son Darwin Peek and wife Carol of Eola, and son Curtis Peek also of Eola.  Vonna is also survived by her grandchildren, Kelsey Domingo, Kayla Domingo, Ashlee Usery (CJ Usery), Garrett Peek, Tanner Peek (Taryn Peek), Ethan Dillon, Treston Wollner (Ariel Johns), and Kara Holtman.  She will be remembered by her great-grandchildren, Atlas Faradineh, Artemis Faradineh, Cameron Barnes, Ava Barnes, Lexi McCormick, Stacy Wollner, Delilah Wollner, and Cody Peek.  Vonna will be greatly missed by her surviving siblings, Terry, Boyce, and Byron Christopher, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation in honor of Vonna will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, Texas.  Her funeral service will be held the following day, Monday, January 29, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Paint Rock Community Church with Mike Thompson officiating.  Interment will follow at Paint Rock Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can go to Ballinger Hospice in Vonna’s honor.

The family wishes to thank Ballinger Health and Rehab and Ballinger Hospice for their kind, dedicated staff. Many thanks to Susie Kingston, Francis Maupin, Kim Wilson, Terry and Kathy Waller for the love and care that they have shown Vonna throughout the years. She enjoyed spending time at Paint Rock Grocery every morning catching up on the local “news” and checking in with each other. She was a great mom, and we were so fortunate to have her in our lives and share her with you.
