Wanda Lee Joiner Rock, 72, of Paint Rock, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas.
Born on July 4, 1952, to Willis Jeff “Rowdy” and Laverne Elizabeth (King) Joiner in Ballinger, Texas, Wanda was a true “Daughter of Paint Rock.” A lifelong resident of Paint Rock, she loved her hometown and dedicated much of her life to the community.
In her youth, she traveled to help care for her nieces and nephews, assisting her brothers while they worked. It was during one of these trips to the Texas Panhandle in Perryton that she met the love of her life, Hollace Wayne Rock, in 1970. Together, they shared over 55 years of cherished memories.
Wanda was a woman of many talents. An exceptional seamstress, she created everything from beautiful quilts to repairing her sons’ blue jeans with ease. Her baking skills were equally renowned, and she expressed her love through the delicious treats she made in her kitchen. However, her greatest passion was caring for children. Wanda dedicated her life to nurturing not only her own children but also countless others in the communities of Paint Rock, Ballinger, Eola, Mereta, Millersview, Doole, and Eden.
Throughout the years, Wanda also served as a dedicated CNA and a skilled cook, always putting the needs of others before her own. Known for her warm heart, honesty, and unwavering love, she was a straight shooter who cherished celebrating holidays—especially her birthday on the Fourth of July. She found joy in fishing with her father, caring for her parents in their later years, and always being there for her family.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Laverne Joiner; her son, Jason Daniel Rock (1979); and her siblings, Jeff Joiner, Julius “Slim” Joiner, Martha Sheffield, and Jimmy Joiner, her beloved great grandson Liam William Charlie Stewart, as well as several close cousins.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Hollace; her beloved children, Elinor Rock, Bryan Rock, James Rock, Allen Rock, and Matthew Rock; and her siblings, Lloyd and Johnny Joiner, and Linda Bruton. Wanda’s legacy continues through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom adored their grandma.
Wanda will lay in state for public viewing from 9 am to 1 pm on Friday, March 7, 2025. A graveside service will be held that afternoon at 2:00 PM at Paint Rock Cemetery in Paint Rock, Texas, with Terry Waller of Paint Rock Community Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wanda’s honor to the American Cancer Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Shannon Medical Center nursing staff for their compassionate care over the past few years, as well as to the Paint Rock community for their overwhelming support during this time of loss.
