William "Bill" Richard Matatall

February 14, 1941 — April 18, 2023

William ‟Bill” Richard Matatall, 82, passed away at Arbor Terrace in San Angelo, Texas on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

He was born on Friday, February 14, 1941, in Meridian, Mississippi, the son of Freeman and Zona (McQueary) Matatall.  After graduating from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, Texas, Bill honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy 1960-61 and was sent to Scotland where he worked on the drydocks in Kirn. While there he met his future wife Mima Carey McConnell, at a Navy dance. They married in Scotland then Bill moved with his wife back to Texas, where they shared 45 years together. Like his father, Bill became a Chef.  Bill was a man’s man with a contagious smile.  He was serious but with a quiet nature, combined with his own special humor. In his leisurely hours, you would most likely find him lounging on his porch, smoking and drinking his coffee.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife; father and mother; brothers, Lester Matatall and Jerry Matatall.

He is survived by his daughters; Margaret and husband Joel Reddington, Glenda and husband Monty Gillingham, Laurie and husband Jim Woodruff, and Christine Allen. Bill is also survived by his grandchildren, Joel Reddington, Matthew Reddington and his wife Melissa,  Ashley Odgers, Austin Odgers and his wife Payton, Aundrea Hopwood and her husband Philip, Chelsea Bolen and husband Shaun, Karman Laterza and her husband Chris,  Riley Woodruff and his fiancé Rozi Hovhannisyan, Auggie Woodruff and his wife Christina, Kaylynn Allen, Kyle Allen, and Ian Allen; and his great-grandchildren, Cole and Jessy Kopishke, Ayden Reddington, Ava Reddington, Wyatt Odgers, Liam Odgers, Eliza Laterza,  and soon to be Baby Woodruff.  He also leaves behind his sisters, Carolyn Mendias and her husband Charlie and Beverly Craig and her husband Joe; brothers-in-law Jimmy McConnell and his wife Susie and Billy McConnell and his wife Liz; and a very special friend, Tanya.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity, in Bill’s honor.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
