William Alfred Thurmond

William Alfred Thurmond,72, of Ballinger, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

He was born on September 1, 1948, to Clarence Monroe Sr. and Catherine B. (Riggs) Thurmond Sr in Miston, Tennessee.  He served honorably in both the United States Army and Navy.  On November 1, 1992 he married Wanda McKay in Lubbock, Texas. And together they shared 28 beautiful years and 5 months.  William was a member of the First Christian Church of Ballinger.  He was a collector of Baseball Cards, and M&M memorabilia.  William loved to play chess and fish out at the lake.

He is preceded in death by his siblings Brenda, Joann, Cathy, Mary-Nell, Jimmy Ray, Charles Ray, Clarence Jr., Danny, Theresa, and grand-daughter Corina Catherine Nicole Thurmond.

William is survived by his wife Wanda, his daughters Marian Thurmond of Arizona, Heather Thurmond and wife Lisa of Arizona, and Tracy Thurmond and husband James David of Ballinger; his sons Danny Keister of Florida, Jason Thurmond and wife Emily of Ballinger and stepson Timothy Headlee of Clovis, New Mexico.  He is also survived by his brothers Bobby Thurmond and wife Cindy of Winters, James David Thurmond Sr. and wife Tracy of Ballinger; his sisters Sheila Hopkins of California and Glenda Crumley of Colorado City as well as 13 (with one on the way) grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 step-grandchild. William will also be tenderly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held for William on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, Texas.  His service will follow on the following day Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm at The First Christian Church of Ballinger with Lynn Smith officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s, Moebius, Cancer, or Parkinson’s research in William’s name.
