Faye Sheldon

February 18, 1922 — February 23, 2021

Faye B. Sheldon, 99, of San Angelo, Texas, passed from her life on February 23, 2021.

Faye was born in Ballinger, Texas, on February 18, 1922, to Aubrey and Bessie (Jackson) Brunson. Faye loved riding horses and enjoyed playing in the School Band. In 1938, she graduated from Ballinger High School.

After graduating from Nurses Training, she worked for a family doctor in Ballinger.

When World War II was winding down in Europe, she worked as a parachute packer at Bruce Field doing what she could to support the troops. At the end of 1943, she met a young pilot, Albert E. Sheldon, Jr. After literally falling in love at first sight, the couple got married on January 27, 1944, in Ballinger.

Faye accompanied Al to Panama, Germany, France, Wyoming, and Washington D.C.  until he retired in 1969 and they returned to San Angelo, Texas.

Faye was a wonderful dancer and a gifted painter. She enjoyed creating ceramics and designing jewelry. She worked for Bart Man Jewelers until she decided to retire at the age of 75.

Faye was very interested in history, she loved to travel and visit museums. She, her husband,  daughter Gudrun, and son-in-law Otto, attended many reunions of WWII veterans together. They also toured through Europe, including visiting the Amber Room in St. Petersburg, which had been one of Faye‘s lifetime dreams.

Faye never stopped being active. She volunteered in the food kitchen for many years and was always ready to help when somebody was in need. Faye was also a great animal lover and devoted her later years to saving stray cats and dogs.  She would catch feral cats in her neighborhood, have them spayed or neutered and then release them to return to running free and dining at her home every day.

Preceding Faye in death were her beloved husband Albert E. Sheldon, her brother A.W. Brunson of Ballinger, her sister Juanita Brunson of Ballinger, her brother Roy Brunson of San Angelo, her sister Dorothy Habersang of San Antonio, and her brother Jack Brunson of Marfa.

Survivors are her daughter Gudrun Held and husband Otto of Munich, Germany, niece Randi Richardson of Little Rock, Arkansas, nephew Russell Habersang of Montgomery, Texas, niece Paula Brunson of Austin, nephew Stephen Brunson of Marfa, Texas, nieces Cheryl Rapelye and Terri Krueger of San Antonio, Texas, nephew Jackie Brunson of Austin, niece Mary Taylor of Dallas, niece Shari Buchanan and nephews Jerry, Kirk, and Tommy Brunson of Texas, niece Jolene Brunson of Richardson, Texas, niece Joann Brunson of Lubbock, Texas, niece Suzie St. Pierre of Waterbury, Connecticut as well as other nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews.

On behalf of Faye’s entire family, I would like to thank Michelle Carillo for her kindness and for being my eyes and ears when I could not be with my Mother,  her caregivers Kim Gilbert, Samantha Ragan, and Deborah Luna, of Comfort Keepers, San Angelo, as well as the wonderful nurses of Hospice of San Angelo. They helped me to honor my Mother’s wish to live out her last days in her home. I also want to thank her dear friends JoCeal Beck and Jessie Castillo for their reliable support.
